Save Money During Chinese New Year With Cheapest Drinks In Town

Chinese New Year in Singapore is looming on the horizon (from February 7th for those who have not been keeping track) and now is the time to stock up on the Chinese New Year goodies like food and drinks for visitors, as prices start to climb. Some shops have started charging 20 per cent higher and this can be quite a strain on Singaporeans who celebrate the occasion and will entertain many guests at home during the two week long festivities. Not only do Chinese Singaporeans have to spend on food and drinks for guests and the Lunar New Year Eve dinner when families gather for the big meal, they have to give out ang baos, or red packets filled with cash, as token gifts and well wishes to all visitors to their homes. Now we are on the lookout for some of the best deals in town to help keep all Chinese New Year spending within budget, and boy have we found a good deal on our hands!

ABC Bargain Centre, located in Fajar Shopping Centre, next to the resident Shop ‘N Save supermarket, sells canned soft drinks for S$0.50 each. Yes! 50 cents each. On top of that, these soft drinks also come in the usual 1.5 litre bottles at only S$1.45 each. You aren’t imagining it when I say that. While the selection is limited, it is more than sufficient for Chinese New Year and you can still get your pick of the popular soft drinks such as Coca Cola, 7-Up, Pepsi, Ice Lemon Tea, Mug Root Beer, 100 Plus, Sarsi, and some old favourites and gems like Ice Cream Soda and Fanta Grape! I was absolutely licking my lips as I packed my shopping basket with cartons and cartons of the cheap soft drinks. Not only was I stocking up for Chinese New Year, my storeroom is now packed from floor to ceiling with a year’s supply of Coca Cola and Ice Cream Soda.

The staff at ABC Bargain Centre are a nice friendly bunch of Filipinos with great customer service. The shop stocks other necessities such as toiletries, utensils, and other tidbits and packaged food which all come at great low prices (we would know seeing how its name is “Bargain”). How about a stick of Colgate toothpaste at S$1.00? Can’t go any cheaper than that I’m telling you. And the store packs a great selling point - if you can find any of the items at a lower price elsewhere, you can bring it back to them for a full refund and get to keep the items too.

If you haven’t already thought of it, yes, you can also stock up on Chinese New Year tidbits with some great bargains at ABC Bargain Centre. While they do not have the traditional Lunar New Year goodies, you can still grab a nice selection of sweets like Mentoes and Hacks. There are many cookie packs from Japan and Korea and you know those will go down a treat with guests during the CNY period. So before they run out of stock, hop down to ABC Bargain Centre, located at Fajar Shopping Centre in Bukit Panjang, and bring your lorries or pickups to stack up those cheap canned soft drinks and tidbits for Chinese New Year in Singapore!

You can get to Fajar Shopping Centre via LRT. Nearest station is Fajar, which is right next to it.
